A Dream of Wilderness

gebs These songs are more immediately hooky and recognizable than those on Prokopton, and that makes this album the superior cut. Great melodies, awesome guitar, and sumptuous cleans. Favorite track: Panta Rhei.

Bart It's been a long time since symphonic black metal has really struck a nerve with me (think back to old Limbonic Art). There is an orchestral and musical theater feeling to this material. Themes resurface and morph into something fresh. This album is worth repeated spins so it can really shine. Favorite track: Antigone.

Alain Fournier The synthesis of the symphonic and death metal elements is flawless. The neoclassical guitar work is first rate and enhances the symphonic elements. The guitar solos are sublime. The mix of clean and growled vocals is the best I have heard in a long time. The drums and bass anchor the whole thing magnificently. The album is dynamic, catchy and headbangingly excellent. I am in awe. Favorite track: Strider.

about

Following their much-acclaimed 2019 album, Prokopton, Toulouse based symphonic melodic death metal force AEPHANEMER returns with their third and thunderous full-length record, A Dream Of Wilderness, via Napalm Records! Starting out as an unbelievably successful DIY ride that suddenly turned towards international acclaim, the indisputable AEPHANEMER is one of the most exciting symphonic death metal sensations of the modern age. Fast-paced metal fronted by the guttural growls and fierce screams of extraordinary vocalist Marion Bascoul meet flickering twin leads, elements of Scandinavian death metal, Slavic traditional music and epic synths. If Prokopton was a noteworthy, impressive sophomore album from one of Europe’s best up and coming melodic death metal bands yet, A Dream Of Wilderness sees the French four-piece doubling down on its songwriting skills. Faster, tighter and heavier, AEPHANEMER’s upcoming third album unleashes an anthemic adventure of brutally fast riffage and epic melodies!
Each single on A Dream Of Wilderness provides an exciting and refreshing mixture of metallic elements that are both technically superior and emotively rousing. Tracks such as “Panta Rhei” showcase the band’s ability to combine blistering, speedy riffs with a thrilling symphonic sound that takes you on a journey right into a death metal fairy tale, while other tracks such as second single “Antigone” represent the dark and gloomier yet no less powerful side of the band – adding to the diverse blend A Dream Of Wilderness. Before the record allows you to escape into another dimension of blast beasts and furious riffage, “Le Radeau de La Méduse” – a heavy, razor-sharp death metal anthem delivered in both French and English versions – will have you headbanging as fast as you can. AEPHANEMER doesn’t seem to fear boundaries, and especially in this day and age of staying "true" and limited within a sound and scene, A Dream Of Wilderness is a welcome diversion and a brave record artfully blending brutally fast symphonic death and raw melodic metal into a multi-faceted epic.
